Carbon Emissions

We are committed to playing our part in minimising our environmental footprint. We will do this by reducing the amount of Greenhouse Gases we are responsible for emitting to the atmosphere.

This means we are committed to:

  1. Achieve a 42% reduction in our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, from the baseline year of FY 2018-19, per 1,000 attendees. This target is set using the Science-Based Targets methodology.
  2. We will measure an expanded Scope 3, which means working closely with our suppliers to understand their emissions. We will then set a Scope 3 reduction target by 2024.
  3. Achieve net zero by 2030.

How will we do this?

  • Work with DCC to improve the carbon/energy efficiency of the Dunedin Centre. Currently, 85% of our emissions are due to heating from LPG so it is important that we look for alternative energy sources.
  • We will engage with our key suppliers and work with them to reduce their emissions at our events.
  • We will improve our energy management system at Forsyth Barr Stadium, installing automated systems and sensors that will save energy and time.
  • We will address other ways we can reduce our carbon emissions including reducing emissions from staff travel and improving our refrigerants.

Waste Management

We are committed to reducing the volume of waste disposed of to landfill from our events by 45% by 2030 per 1,000 event attendees.

To do this we will:

  1. Prioritise the recycling of disposed items and the composting of unused food.
  2. Educate and raise awareness of our patrons and suppliers on the actions they can take to reduce waste to landfill.
  3. Reduce the volume of items procured/ made to minimize the amount which is unused and disposed of (where applicable).
