Carbon Emission

At Dunedin Venues, we are dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint by minimizing the Greenhouse Gases we emit into the atmosphere

We are committed to:

  • 42% Emissions Reduction: Achieve a 42% reduction in our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, based on the FY 2018-19 baseline, per 1,000 attendees. This target follows the Science-Based Targets methodology.
  • Scope 3 Measurement: Expand our Scope 3 emissions measurement by working closely with our suppliers to understand and reduce their emissions. We aim to set a Scope 3 reduction target by 2024.
  • Net Zero by 2030: Achieve net zero emissions by 2030.

Our Strategy:

  • Improving Energy Efficiency: Collaborate with DCC to enhance the carbon and energy efficiency of the Dunedin Centre. Since 85% of our emissions stem from LPG heating, we are exploring alternative energy sources.
  • Supplier Engagement: Work with key suppliers to reduce their emissions at our events.
  • Energy Management: Upgrade the energy management system at Forsyth Barr Stadium with automated systems and sensors to save energy and time.
  • Reducing Other Emissions: Explore methods to reduce emissions from staff travel and improve refrigerant management.

Waste Management

We aim to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill from our events by 45% per 1,000 attendees by 2030.

Our Approach:

  • Recycling and Composting: Prioritize recycling and composting of unused food.
  • Education and Awareness: Educate our patrons and suppliers on waste reduction practices.
  • Minimizing Procurement: Reduce the volume of items procured to minimize waste.
